A Dusty Road for Astronauts

چکیده
The lunar dust problem was first formulated in 1969 with NASA’s successful mission to land a human being on the surface of Moon. Subsequent Apollo missions failed keep at bay, so exposure unavoidable. In 1972, Harrison Schmitt suffered brief sneezing attack, red eyes, an itchy throat, and congested sinuses response dust. Some additional astronauts also reported allergy-like symptoms after tracking into module. Immediately following missions, research toxic effects respiratory system gained lot interest. Moreover, researchers believed other organ systems might be risk, including skin cornea. Secondary could translocate cardiovascular system, immune brain. With current intentions return humans moon establish semi-permanent presence or near moon’s surface, integrated, end-to-end mitigation strategies are needed enable sustainable architecture. characteristics formation Martian different from dust, but advances toxicity, mitigation, protection can prove strategic for future operations Mars.

Chromosome aberrations in astronauts
A review of currently available data on in vivo induced chromosome damage in the blood lymphocytes of astronauts proves that, after protracted exposure of a few months or more to space radiation, cytogenetic biodosimetry analyses of blood collected within a week or two of return from space provides a reliable estimate of equivalent radiation dose and risk. Recent studies indicate that biodosime...
متن کاملAstronauts Must Program Robots
The traditional model for human-robot interaction is at the level of user-interface. For example, given a robot structure (say Robonaut a relatively complex many DOF humantorso style robot) how should the robot be commanded by the human? We propose that for planetary exploration on the scale of Martian or Lunar habitation, a fixed robot/architecture will not be versatile enough for the variety ...
متن کاملThrough a Lens Darkly : Evidence for Dusty
Foreground galaxies that amplify the light from background quasars may also dim that light if the galaxies contain enough dust. Extinction by dust in lenses could hide the large number of lensed systems predicted for a at universe with a large value of the cosmological constant. We look for one signature of dust, namely reddening, by examining optical-infrared colors of gravitationally lensed i...
متن کاملA less dusty future?
[1] Atmospheric desert dust is potentially highly sensitive to changes in climate, carbon dioxide and human land use. In this study we use 6 different scenarios of the processes responsible for changes in source areas and explore changes in desert dust loading in pre-industrial and future climates, although all the scenario results are likely to be sensitive to the climate model simulations use...
